Modica
Modica Alta is the older part of the city perched on a hill with many narrow steps and alleyways leading to the lower part. Much of the city was rebuilt after an earthquake in 1693, in a Sicilian Baroque style including the cathedral San Giorgio.

Mount Etna
Etna looms ominously over Catania. The white patches of cloud near the top are actually smoke leaking through fissures of the volcano.
